I am super excited about this blog post today because I teamed up with the wonderful Deanne Fenton of Darling Found, a Phoenix-based wedding & event planner! She has got some serious talent you guys!

From my own personal experience, I could NOT have made it through my wedding without my wedding day coordinator. She relieved so much stress, took so much off my mental plate, and allowed me to enjoy the best day of my life! I made sure my coordinator had all my vendor’s phone numbers, and even my family’s phone numbers so that she could handle everything that day. Everyone knew to call her, not me!

I thought it would be fun to hear Deanne’s expertise on a few commonly asked questions by brides regarding the wedding planning industry. But first, meet Deanne (pictured below). Is she not the cutest?! I am excited for you to be able to read through her thoughts on these questions! Her answers are GOLD!

1. What is a wedding planner and what do they do?

A wedding planner assists the couple in coordinating the details of their special day and ensures that they have the wedding they have been dreaming of! A wedding planner takes on all the stresses of the wedding in order to give the couple a relaxed, enjoyable event.

Let’s say your linens are two hours late. The couple should never have to stress about it. It’s the job of the wedding planner to handle those arrangements and makes sure linens end up on tables.

2. Does a wedding coordinator plan my whole wedding or just coordinate the day of?

We can cater to the needs of the couple! Some couples need a planner for only the day and other couples need a little more assistance throughout the planning process. I like to offer my couples three packages; Day-Of Coordinator, Partial Planning, or Full Service Planning.

3. Can my mom or maid of honor just be my wedding day coordinator?

Please don’t make your mother or your maid of honor do this! They should be enjoying this day with you. A planner can take care of all the vendors and details, so your family doesn’t have to worry about it. You guys can simply enjoy the day and have fun! Everyone is there to celebrate you!

4. What if I am having a small wedding? Do I still need a wedding planner?

I suggest getting a planner even for smaller weddings. I recently helped a couple elope, and it was the sweetest! They wanted to keep the ceremony intimate yet beautiful. I made sure all they needed to do was arrive. Couples shouldn’t have to worry about when the florist arrives or how to get the cake there on time. Planners will take care of all those little things!

5. “I think I can handle coordinating my own wedding”. What are the challenges with this statement?

While it may save you some money, I highly suggest couples do not coordinate their own wedding. You aren’t going to want to be running around making sure vendors are there on time, telling your DJ when to announce cocktail hour, or reminding your caterer when to bring out the cake. What you should be focused on is having a good time with your new husband (or wife), celebrating with your family and friends, and stuffing your face with delicious food!

6. Why is a wedding planner worth my investment?

A planner will ease your worries and be a friend when you need it most. Planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things couples have to do. Regardless if you have a wedding planner or not, things are going to pop up and not go as planned. Having someone in the industry who knows weddings inside and out will make those bumps not feel so rough. Find a planner whom you can get along with and trust. That is what will make all the difference!
